Virtual Basketball
Virtual Basketball is a virtual gambling product where customers bet on the overall outcome of a game. My role as 3D animation Team Lead started with the motion capture shoot where I helped to plan the shoot and direct the actors. I had to clean the motion capture in MotionBuilder and import it into Maya. I then had to animate the ball, hoop, and net using custom plug-ins made in-house, and then animate all the player's and referee's faces using a custom rig made in-house. I would finally animate the cameras and do any further tweaks and fixes to a clip before it was signed off for rendering. With certain clips, I had to blend other motion capture clips together to create varied endings/outcomes.
As well as my animation and motion capture responsibilities, this was my first full project with my Team Lead role. This involved helping the general administrative processes of the project, giving feedback on other animator's work, liaising with the motion capture company used for our shoots and motion capture processing, delegating work to the rest of the animation team, and acting as a general middle man between the animation team and various managers/higher ups. I additionally did some basic modelling for this product; mostly items around the court such as water bottles, cups, towels, stationary, the scoreboard above each hoop, bins, and water cooler boxes.
I take no credit for work that isn't my own, I did not do the animation work for ever clip in this video. I take no credit for any rigging, lighting, preamble/2D graphics, audio, or crowd work in this product (though once again I reprised my motion capture role as the entire crowd for this product).
